What Are Actions in Journey Builder?

A Journey is made of three core elements:

  1. Enrollment Trigger: Automatically enroll records in a Journey by setting enrollment triggers. Records are enrolled when they meet specific criteria and/or complete an event. Only one trigger can be set for a journey.
  2. Actions: Actions are functions that the Journey will execute when the enrolled record reaches that Journey Step. An action typically
  3. Rules: Rules are functions that determine when an Action will be executed, and/or which Actions will be executed for a record.

After creating your Journey and setting an Enrollment Trigger, choose Actions to add to your Journey.

Update Record

Set, edit, and clear field values for an enrolled record.

Note: Available fields are based on the Journey-type. Default Journey-types may vary by organization. They include:

  • Lead-based
  • Contact-based
  • Employee-based
  • Consumer-based
  • Account-based

Opt-in

Subscribe enrolled records in email or SMS marketing channels by selecting the relevant domain and communication channel.

Opt-out

Unsubscribe enrolled records from email or SMS marketing channels by selecting the relevant domain and communication channel.

Send Email

Send automated emails to the email address associated with the enrolled record.

Only published Automated Emails will be available to send to an enrolled record.

The following emails will not be available in a Journey:

  • Automated emails that have not been published, and remain in the Draft state.
  • Standard emails in the Draft state
  • Standard emails that have been sent
  • Standard emails that are scheduled to be sent

Send SMS

Send automated SMS to the phone number associated with the enrolled record.

Only published Automated SMS will be available to send to an enrolled record.

The following SMS will not be available in a Journey:

  • Automated SMS that have not been published, and remain in the Draft state.
  • Standard SMS in the Draft state
  • Standard SMS that have been sent
  • Standard SMS that are scheduled to be sent
