If you have SMS enabled in Tenon, you will need to create SMS or MMS messages to communicate with your targeted list(s). Here’s how to accomplish this task:
- Navigate to the SMS section of Automate via the navigation menu
- In the upper right corner, click on the green action button + SMS
- Name your text message and designate the SMS type:

a. If you want to send a one-off text message, select Standard
b. If you want to use this text message as a Journey action, select Automated
4. Create your text message:

5. Select your SMS profile. If you only have one configured profile within your workspace settings, it will be selected by default.
6. Click “Include opt-out text” to include the opt-out text configured within the sender profile.
7. Inside of the text box, you can type your SMS message and see a live preview to the left of the settings box
- To add an emoji, click on the emoji
- To add a link, click on the paper clip
- If you have MMS enabled, click on the rightmost icon to add an image
8. If you want to add dynamic content, click the lightning bolt
9. To save your progress at any time, click the “Save Draft” button
Inserting Dynamic Content

If you click on the lightning bolt, you can create dynamic parameters which pull from each recipient’s ServiceNow record for the choices listed. For example, if you were to insert First Name, someone named “Ben” on your list would see their name within the message, while someone named Lisa would see “Lisa”. You can also create a default value for a parameter to account for any recipients where the field may be blank.
For Automated SMS Messages
If you selected Automated as your message type, you can publish the message once it is fully configured to your liking. This enables you to select the message within the SMS action card inside of Journey Builder.
For Standard SMS Messages
If you selected Standard as your message type, you must select the audience you want to receive your message. You can also set an excluded audience of people you don’t want to receive the message.
You have the option to send the message immediately, or schedule the message. If you click on schedule, there is a Send On field where you can set the date & time you want to send out your text message.
